AAA FAQ

How does AAA in-text citation work?
AAA uses author-date parenthetical citations, for example (Smith 2017:112), where the number after the colon indicates a page. The full reference appears in the alphabetical reference list.
Is AAA style based on Chicago?
Yes. AAA style is derived from Chicago Author-Date and shares many of its conventions, but the AAA Style Guide specifies adaptations for anthropological source types and terminology.
What disciplines use AAA style?
AAA is used in cultural anthropology, social anthropology, and related disciplines, and is required by journals published by the American Anthropological Association.
